NON-TECHNICAL EMPLOYEES RESISTANCE TOWARDS TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGES: A CASE STUDY OF GULF PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRIES COMPANY IN THE KINGDOM OF BAHRAIN
Abstract
The Petrochemical and Fertilizers Industry is one of the most advanced industries that exist in the region, due to the high demand for their products and the important role that it plays in producing basic products. In such industries, having access to new technologies may be the make it or break it point to them. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and examine the factors leading to resistance by employees in embracing technological advancements in Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC), and to identify strategies that will help to manage, control and reduce its effects. In order to achieve the goals a qualitative approach is adopted, it was possible to effectively collect and examine data; interviews were conducted with employees of different seniorities from various departments at Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC). Findings have shown that due to the company’s effective and wise management approach, the company was able to navigate through, and manage the employee’s resistance to technological advancement while at the same time sustaining high productivity levels.
